Founded over a decade ago by

Mark Dolan began as a second act — a move away from corporate life and toward something more meaningful. Alongside his wife, Mary Jane, Mark turned a longtime love of neighborhood cafés into a welcoming space where locals and visitors alike feel at home. With guidance from Crimson Cup, Driftwood was built as an independent café from the ground up, free from franchise formulas and rooted in its own identity.

Today, Driftwood Coffee is a daily gathering place for the Spring Lake community. Neighbors greet each other by name, beachgoers stop in before or after the shore, and the rhythm of the espresso machine sets the tone for relaxed, intentional mornings. Running a coffee shop in a seasonal Jersey Shore town requires adaptability, especially during busy summer months, but the focus always remains the same: quality, consistency, and connection.

The café’s design reflects its name — a blend of New England cottage warmth and laid-back coastal style. It’s a place to grab a quick coffee before the beach or settle in and stay awhile.

More than a coffee shop,

Driftwood functions as a community hub. From supporting local schools and fundraisers to hosting a community bulletin board — affectionately called the “town crier” — the café serves as an unofficial welcome center for Spring Lake.

The menu is intentionally simple, featuring a consistent house roast alongside seasonal drinks shaped by customer feedback. For Mark, the heart of Driftwood Coffee is the people. When someone walks through the door for the first time, the goal is simple: make them feel like they’ve been coming here for years.
